Cindered Ella

It's amazing what went up that lum*,
that long and narrow flue
Aglow with spitting cloud and sparks -
those secrets I told you

A hearth of warmth and visions,
we catch the flickers' dance
From those scrunched, poetic papers,
leading us into romance.

Burning wood and all that rubbish,
that gave out the worst of smells
Smelt to us of rose and cinnamon
as we downed some sweet Moselle

How those flames induced our feelings,
tears that dripped as profiles glowed
What had happened to the promises
those flickers could decode?

Then you started throwing papers,
little pictures on the embers
Curling inwards from the edges,
cinders left as it remembers

Will you let her sit on my rug
as you comb her shampooed hair?
Gaze into the pit of memories
with deep illgotten flare

I'll never need a fireside
to remind me I'm alone
No need to burn to go through Hell
when you're in a smokeless zone.

*The Scottish vernacular of 'chimney'.

burn it all...intriguing take on the picture, fresh...the things we burn in hopes of getting rid of...though sometimes not really all that much...

Nice Herman's Hermits video! Dandy was my first favorite song, I played it every hour when I was 10.

Love it!

This reeks of talent, so many layers, labyrinthine. The hell of a smokeless world is a conundrum that may take some magical working out, yet it exists , is deliciously alive, so thanks Lena , poetess !

Fragmented memories of lusty evenings gone up in smoke.
Sad!

Brian - flares of all sizes indeed.

Tess - ah, thanks........you notice I'm a little lazy with the title again!? ☻

Rob - I grew up with 3 older brothers and heap loads of 60's vinyls. HH was a personal favourite - better than the Beatles for me, anyhow! Dandy was a favourite of mine, too! I loved how Peter went from icky-sticky, pop, and to power ballads. The Door certainly Swings Both Ways for them. ☺

Doria - thanks so much. Always nice to know you don't mind a rhyming read, too! ☻

Kutamun - what a fabulous boost your comment has given me! You were spot on with where I went with this piece, so thank you veryt much! ☺

Helen - LoL....you noticed the little changes, then!! It's a fabulous painting as it is but the room still looked a little too minimalist. I needed to add bits here and there as I'm used to clutter...!☻!

Thingy - It was a little on the sad side, although it started of on a brisk cheery side - and plummeted somewhat! lol ☺

Mrs. Trellis - The treasure was my pleasure!

Rel - yup....that's about the gist of it. The rugs I've burned in my time...! ☻
