As Lovers Often Do

They were bright fields, the ripe fields, where sinning was for fun.
Making love, clouds of dust above, under suburban sun.
As we stood the concrete jungle rose, to greet our tired eyes
And crushed the hope the wheat provided, stripped and fratenised

A shape of every morning captured in the swaying sheaths
Opened the blinds of my mind's new dawning, temporal relief
I try to feel the openess, the hardship of the sow
How a single field can captivate more than they'll ever know.

We make a road each summer, leading to the ordinary
And promise not to burden us with more than we can carry.
Then the harvester, a mean machine, with spikes that rip the heart.
Flattens out the golden hideaway, securing quick depart.

You took your life as lovers often do
but I could have told you, Vincent.
This world was never meant for one
as beautiful as you........#

You've turned harvest on its head and painted it as destruction, which, in a way, it is.

I like that you referenced the Don MacLean song.

A reading a rendering of our youth that you've captured beautifully. I could hear this poem set to music...

(Don McClean's "Vincent" is, in my opinion, one of the most lyrically beautiful songs ever.)

I thought of ol' Don McClean too, when looking at that photo.

Thingy - there's a lot of great writes out there, yours in my top 10!

Kathe - many ta's

Fireblossom - I don't visit your blog enough (and there's no excuse!) so I'm gonna reform!

Martin - like your lens - your work amazes me!

Jingle - my saviour in a parking lot! Thank you!

Tumblewords - as always, your views are honoured!

Rick (and Fireblossom) everytime I see a Van Gogh I (typically) think of the song. One of the earliest I learned to play on guitar with guidance from my older brother. I may record and up it here (on my sidebar) one day.

Sioux - art and music. The perfect combination.

Isobel - thank you very much and thanks for visiting. Tess's prompts never seem to fail to drag a decent line or two out of me, I guess!

Indi - I try other methods of creation but always seem to end up with reliable ol' rhymes! Thanks.

Heartfelt write Lena. I thouht of the song Starry Night too. And, I also thought of the Sting song, Fields of Gold (though I think those in the song were barley). Anyway, good piece.

Helen - You've never stopped this writing malarky since high school! Always a pencil or a ruddy guitar in your hand (as well as Migi's boyfriends!)lol.....! Now there's kinda homage to both in this wee poem, you 'n' migi used to sing this, too.....I remember!!!!!!

...sadly piece… Vincent Van Gogh is one of the many artists i admired personally... i adore his many geniuses and the way he sees life as reflected in his excellent art pieces... i love the one you quote at the end... (:

...we had a terrible darkness here at our place for two days since Monday night... power’s off due to the heavy typhoon we had.. we’re currently having our rainy season here so i should be expecting more of the unfortunate events like the one we had earlier... i just hope that all will be safe still and no one will get harmed... thanks for the many kind words you shed over my li’l space.(:

Take care,

~Kelvin
