Air Etchings.
The field is such a fine place
for the easel board and lead.
Miles and miles of nothingness,
a clear and silent head.
Sharpening the pencils
with a sure and steady hand.
Then breath in inspiration,
casting thoughts out to the land.
A wispy stroke, a beaded brow,
just where will this line end?
Along the shaded darker route,
with his linear of friends?
A blended, smudgy vision
is now starting to evolve.
As graphite takes you over
Reality dissolved.
The lineweight finds its ideal shade
The pulp accepting tones
In simple sweeps the graphite keeps
Creations as His own.
Miles and miles of nothingness
That neither talks nor lies.
It is amazing what appears
when not before the eyes.

Nice Magpie! I really like the last stanza.
A beautiful interpretation of the prompt and a wonderful Magpie Tale. This was a delight to read.
perfect perfect- love your piece. I especially like the last two lines
"It is amazing what appears
when not before the eyes."
I always am amazed at what happens to the paper as one draws.

And an extra thank you to Everyday Goddess for checking out my son's band. It's not as if I strategically placed an advert for them or anything.....*ahem*.....
"...reality dissolved..."
How often we strive to reach that moment, to escape within our art.
oh a fabulous magpie...love to take my pencils to the middle of nowhere just to see what we find...
Ah my husband would appreciate this tome very much, he too draws and paints, a recent activity that he had been meaning to take up again after several years. A lovely read eld gal!

You must be a visual artist to write about line and smudges..I could feel the artist's path..very good!
Wonderfully landscaped Magpie!
Awesome Magpie! The rhyme is lovely, not forced. Images abound in this piece. "A wispy stroke with beaded brow...." Love it.

Hi Lena, thanks for visiting and thanks for the poem. So the graphite takes you away from what is before your eyes! Apt expression of artistic process!
Wow wow wow amazing! My favourite was the last stanza. Awesome magpie!
Lena,
I love how you put to rhyme the very thoughts so many writers engage. You put your pencil to very good use!
Nice Magpie.

It's amazing how creative we can be when we escape to a place void of distraction ... very nice Magpie!
That's a delicious read. Very creative! Loved the last 4 lines.
That is the joy of it - never knowing where the pencils will take us. For me it is the meaning of possibility. I really liked your poem.gonste
